What you pretend to be, you are not

You may think, pretending is a bad thing, and that it is about finding and expressing the real you.

First of all: That which is you has nothing to express. It is formless and therefore endless, so so there is nothing else and no one to express anything to.

Secondly: The oneness of that which is you cannot be found in a world defined by time and space. Nothing can be found in such a world but illusions, as there is no more than the formlessness of that which is you.

Pretending is neither bad or good. It is just a tool, that you use to appear in a place, where you cannot be. You cannot be in an illusion as a video game, a movie, a book or a dream, but you can pretend to be there so that you appear to be where you are not.

The longer you seem to be part of a world defined by time and space, the more real it may feel to be, but it is only because you pretend so, whether you have forgotten this or not.

The good news is, that what you pretend to be, you are not. You are not a person in a video game, a movie, a book or a world defined by time and space. Yet the formlessness of that which is you cannot be known in a world, that appears to be definable. No worries. The motivation needed for having the belief in it undone is to know that what you appear to be there is an illusion. When you know that, you do not care how you appear, and so this illusion has no power to imprison you.

Not believing to be someone definitive rules out whatever you seem to think, feel and do as something as something defining that which is you

Seen from the perspective of a person in a world where there seems to be more than one, the formlessness of that which is one is a very lonely affair. A person, who believes to be living in a capsule of time and space to be real, needs companionship, so it seems as if this belief is shared and therefore acknowledge to be true.

That which is you is no different from the formlessness of that which is one and as formlessness is endless you are everything, so how can you ever be lonely – even though you for a while pretend to not be that which is you.

If you do not share this belief, you appear to be in the world. Yet you are not of it. You just pretend to be there, and as what you pretend to be you are not, so none of the thoughts or feelings passing by is made by you. Neither what you appear to do.

Someone, who pretends to be a person in the world, has more or less the same reactions to it, as someone, who believes to be a person there, because a person reacts according to how they are programmed – just like a person in a video game. How you appear does not matter, when you do not believe it is you

The difference though between the one who believes to be in the world and the one who pretends to be there is that the latter do not take the programmed reactions seriously.

When you are a child, you play with children´s toys, as if they are real, even though you may have seen, that it is not the reality of the world. Likewise when you pretend to be someone definitive in the world, you play with the tools of the world, as if they are real, even though you may have grasped, it is not, because that which is you is no different from the formlessness of that which is one, and as formlessness is endless there is no more than that which is one.

A house built of sand is something that appears to be real to children. They seem to imagine, that they live in it and therefore cries if it falls apart, where as most grown ups see a house of sand as an illusion and consequently do not imagine to live there and cry if it falls apart.

Likewise one who is to be compared to the enlightenment of that which is one* sees the whole world as an illusion and therefore knows it is not possible to live there. It is only something you can pretend – and where you pretend to be, you are no, so you remain that which is you.

In the same way, as children toys are symbols of something in the world of grown-ups, all toys in the world of duality are symbols of non-duality. And just like the toys of a child do not make up a real but a make-believe world so does the toys of the grown-ups.

If you consider the toys of a child to be real, it can be frustrating to play with them, but seen as symbols of the world it can be quite fun. The same applies to all the toys in a world of duality. When they are seen as something in a real world it seems frustrating to deal with them, but when seen as symbols of the real world, namely non-duality, pretending to be someone definitive playing with the symbols of non-duality appears to be quite fun.

A cat does not stay with you because of you, but due to the food you can provide. That you are loving each other is something you pretend, when both get what they need. The same goes for humans.

Ultimately all that appears to happen in the world is going on inside of you and not in the world, but even within the framework of a world believed to be separated from you lots of it happens in you. You think, for example, about another person and imagine, that this person may love you, and so you imagine, what kind of person it is best to pretend to be to in order to get what you perceive as love from the other person.

When you actually meet the other person, you analyse the apparent external interaction to see, what the other person expects from you or responds positively upon – and so you internally construct a personality, that you imagine will fit the needs of the other person. The personality you have constructed you do not impose on the other person to make it love you. but to make it dependent on you by pretending only you have what it needs.

You both pretend, that the other one makes you complete and that you cannot live without each other. To belong to someone specific confirms both of you to be real. This self-made prison you can replace with another, but you cannot escape it. To escape from something is an act based on duality, so no matter what you do the result is within the world of duality. No worries. You do not need to do anything, because that which is you is not there.

There is one thing though, that you can do to undo the effect duality seems to have. Pretend to be someone, who loves appearing to be where it is not.
