(+) Every moment is the perfect moment – also for dying in the rainforest

This article is about the rescue of Alexius from the rainforest. In tv, where they showed how he was wired up into a helicopter, they called him the hero who survived the rainforest. This article, however, is not about heroic stuff, but about the thoughts passing by when the person Alexius was about to die after two days in the rainforest without food and water and when was brought back to the world again.

Although there was visions while in the primeval forest, this article is not about so-called near-death experiences or enlightenment, though none of them are unfamiliar to Alexius, but about a person recognising, that every moment is the perfect moment.

The end of a person
In 2010 I was stuck in a rainforest for two days without food and water. I had followed a dried out river down the mountain towards the sea, but the closer I came to the sea the more impenetrable the rainforest became. At the end of the first day I had to give up digging my way through the thorny lianas, and so had the two rescue team trying to get through to me the next day.

During the second day I started to hallucinate and was prepared myself for dying in the coldness of the coming night due to the dehydration caused by no water and much exhaustion. It was extremely beautiful there, and it did not seem important to continue as a person. There was nothing unfulfilled in my personal life. My mundane longings had all been met. My life was over – at least as the person I had appeared to be. But then I was rescued by a helicopter at the end of the second day.

That which is life
Before the helicopter arrived it was like the person that used to be in the body of Alexius faded out and as life was blown into an empty body, where a new person arose. Somehow the deal was that the personal life of Alexius was finish and instead an impersonal version of him would continue with the goal of giving back everything to where it came from.

At first I did not understand how to do that. Thought I should do something great and good for all mankind, until I realised that though the formlessness of life is not in a world defined by time and space, everything in such a world symbolises it, as it is due to the formlessness of life that it is possible to experience a world defined by time and space.

That which is life cannot be experienced in a world defined by time and space, because it is not definable.

When thoughts are returned instead of making them mine, they have no effect, and so all that is left is a person, who enjoys returning thoughts to that which is life. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

So perceiving all thoughts as symbols of life, they do not belong to me, but I give life back to that which it is. This way thoughts have no effect, and there is not an image of someone definitive that needs to be upheld. Instead everything – including the person I appear to be – is perceived as symbols of that which is life.

The world is a construction of fragmented thoughts
You can compare that which is life to being one thought and one only. When that is all there is, there is peace. If that thought is divided into two – one thought as a separate entity looking at the other thought as a world outside of it – peace is over. One division leads to another. The thought called the world is divided into two thoughts of black and white. The thought watching a world that appears to be outside of it in black and white is also divided into two, namely a judge and an executioner.

Now we basically have a person, who seems to be able to choose different experiences in a world divided by black and white, that a judge passes sentence on by making a further division of thoughts into good and bad. More division of thoughts into right and wrong seems to justify that an executioner makes things right by making the bad go away. These divisions set more in motion – and so it goes on. A  world of duality is constructed.

If I fear how the helicopter guys judge my tripin the rainforest, it´s actually my ownjudgment of the trip, that I fear.

This interaction of Person, WorldJudge and Executioner is what makes a world of duality keep spinning. A person sees something, that is judged to be either good or bad by the judge, whose judgment the person fears and often project onto something outside of itself like god, a parent, boss, lover. A common judgment is, that something is not good enough, and that the executioner, which may be projected onto something outside of the person, for example society, should make it right by eliminating the bad. Yet nothing ever seems to be right for a person. There is always something wrong. Let me illustrate this by returning to the rainforest:

Enough is enough
I had to make my way through lots of thorny lianas following the dried out river down the mountain. They came in bundles and sometimes it took half an hour to pass a distance, that I if not for the almost impenetrable lianas could have walked in two minutes.

My feet were hurting as two nails had been ripped off my toes, when I fell down the mountain, because the branches I tried to hold onto were so dry that they broke. And due to the thorns in the bushes my clothes were torn apart and my hands full of bloody. So every time I came out on the other side of a bundle of bushes, the beautiful world of the primeval forest, that was revealed to me there, was judged to be ugly.

I was angry with the situation and judged it to be bad to being in this obscure place and not knowing when I would get out of there – if ever. There was no executioner, who could make the bad go away. Everything was wrong – until I had just passed one too many bushes of thorny lianas.

I was there, and only there, in the middle of nowhere. There was no need to go anywhere. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Suddenly I had enough of judging everything to be bad and wrong. And just like that, all was good – not as opposed to bad, but just good enough as it was. Nothing was right or wrong, but intensely beautiful. In the world beauty can only be seen, if contrasted by ugliness. But if you choose not to focus on ugliness, and instead perceive it as a background, that enhances beauty, you are not using ugliness as an excuse to escape the moment as it is.

When you do not try to escape the moment as it is, beauty stops appearing beautiful and ugliness is no more ugly. Together they are greater than the sum of the parts: A symbol of union, which is as close as you can get to oneness in the world. It was not an intellectual change of mind. The change happened simply because I had enough of going down the dried out river. A journey that seemed to mirror running from the moment as it is. Out of nowhere I was, where I was as a person in the middle of nowhere. And I had no need to go anywhere.

If a person should remember to breathe, it would most likely be distracted and in less in a minute forget to do it. So it is not a person that is making the body breath. But whatever it is, it is what makes the interaction of Person, World, Judge and Executioner possible. The interaction depends on that.

Life sees no differences
Before and after that breakthrough, I was of course breathing – otherwise this article would could not appear to be on your screen. I also had a heart attack and was still breathing. The different parts of the interaction of Person, World, Judge and Executioner consider their interaction to be everything, but without breathing they cannot interaction.

The breath, or what is making it possible, does not seem to know the difference between being stuck in a rainforest or sitting on my terrace. Neither does it seem to know the interaction of Person, World, Judge and Executioner, because no matter where I am as a person in the world and how it is judged by me, the breath steadily goes in and out of the body.

This force does not seem to know a world of duality although it is the power that makes it possible to experience it – just like electricity does not know the bulb that illuminates a room due to it. All what this force knows is what it is, namely non-duality – another name for that which is life.

To share symbols of life with that which is life
That which is life cannot be seen or experienced as a person, because there is no life in the world. Yet that which life is the force used to generate the simulated world of duality. From this follows that everything in the world are symbols of that which is life – just like a movie or a book consist of nothing but symbols of the world.

To know this is a thought, because that is how things can be known in the world – feelings are just thoughts made tangible. In my case I know the world is an illusion, because I have vague memories of the enlightenment of that which is one, where there is nothing definable and therefore no thoughts, neither me. The movement of it is so fast, that there is no differentiation possible. Without that there is no separation and therefore no world – but that is another story. Instead let us return to the rainforest, because it is the time to elaborate on how to return symbols of life to that which is life:

In the beginning the world was very vivid and intense with transparent creatures, as it had not yet been totally defined by time and space. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

How can you give life back to life, when it is not in a world of duality. You cannot, but you can give back what it is empowering, namely the world that is constructed via Person, World, Judge and Executioner. All those fragmented thoughts will bounce off, if you do not try to make them your own and keep dividing them to construct and uphold the world of separation but instead see them as symbols of the non-separated, namely that which is life.

In this way there are no thoughts left to fabricate a certain image of a person encapsulated by time and space. It is in this emptiness a ´voice´, that I call Gudruång (spoken with a soft ´d´ and ending in the echo of the universe), comes through and seems to write these non teachings.

From bliss to suffering
Giving symbols of life back to that which life is as close as you can get to the beginning of the universe, as it was in the moments when expanding from the black hole right after the big bang. From an experience point of view these first moments of time was very vivid and intense with transparent appearances of godlike creatures. Gurus often have visions from there and talk very dedicated about it as the highest state of bliss and being.

They are right regarding bliss, and you if you do much hard work you may be able to return that ´place´, but unfortunately you cannot remain there. Bliss requires an opposite thought as contrast for it to be experienced, and as long as there is more than one thought, they will keep on dividing in a downward spiral, where they become less and less transparent and more and more defined. In other words: As long as you experience something, you will end in the world as you know it, where the price of appearing as someone specific instead of nobody is suffering.

The gurus though are wrong about being. Everything on this side of the black hole is dualistic, and there is no being in a dualistic world. As long as you have a concept of a black hole with two sides, you are in a dualistic world. There is nothing on this side and neither on the other side, because there are no sides – but now we are talking ultimately, and this article is about appearing as a person in the world.

Suffering is the price of believing to be a person in the world
Many sense the problems of appearing as a person in the world, and they try to heal or improve the person, they seem to be, but all they do is fabricating another person, which may seem better until they realise, the price for the new person – no matter how higher self appear to be – is the same as for the old one, namely suffering.

It looks as there´s a special bird sitting on the tree – like a creature with its own life. But that´s an illusion. This creature is not a separate entity but part of the tree, which is part of the rainforest, which is …

Most go on in this way and invent new ways to be, like giving pure love instead of love, having direct experience instead of just an experience, or coming from the heart instead of the brain. Everything in a person though is governed by the brain, where it is the same organ, that process both the data of so-called reality and imagined things. To the brain there is no difference between coming from the heart or the kidney or if love is pure or not. Everything is a construction of thoughts.

The brain was able to make everybody believe, that the earth was flat, and when they realised it is not so, it is still able to make them believe it is presenting them with reality – that the world and you as a person in it is real, even though it is all nothing but make-believe constructed by the divisions of thoughts.

No more suffering – every moment is perfect
You can replace one thought with another thought, but you cannot transcend a thought. That would just be another thought. However you can learn to deal with the appearances of thoughts, if you do not consider them as real but as symbols of that which is. It is like playing a video game. You know it is just make-believe, and knowing that, you can have tremendous fun adjusting to the rules of the game, so you are in the game but not of it.

The rule in the world is to pretend to be a person even though you are not ´there´ – just like you are not the character, you are playing in a video game.

In the game of the world there is no healing possible of the self of a person, neither is self-realisation possible. And the reason is simply, that there is no self – like everything else in the world it is make-believe. No meditation, chanting, praying or whatever is needed  – on the contrary. The whole problem comes from the believe in being a person in the world, so if you meditate, chant or pray to change or improve this person, you enhance your believe in its appearance as real.

What a perfect moment hanging in the air.

What a perfect moment hanging in nowhere. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

If you pretend to be a person in the world – like you pretend to be someone you are not in a video game – instead of believing to be a person in the world, there is no suffering. Consequently there is no need for improvement or make the world perfect. Every moment is the perfect moment, as it is. Nothing is wrong or missing. This was crystal clear to me hanging in the air, when I was wired up from the rainforest by a helicopter.

A moment is all-inclusive
That which is life is not exclusive but inclusive. Likewise a moment in the world includes everything: The so-called past and future, sadness and happiness or whatever passes by in that moment. Living in the now on the other hand does not include everything. To live in the now you must exclude certain thoughts of perceived future and past.

A moment can be the split second, that you see the joy in the eyes of your loved one, or the full hour that a daydream lasts, or the minutes you are thinking about your first kiss. Or a whole day where you forget everything about the perfect moment and hate the whole world. Anything that is passing by is part of the totality, that makes a moment perfect.

A moment though is not perfect like a music video on MTV. Pretending to be a person in the world is a process with ups and downs and any moment will reflect that. By choosing inclusiveness one is not busy running from the fear of facing suppressed feelings. Instead one is busy living as a person in the way it is in the world, where every moment with its ups and downs is the perfect moment – just like the thrill of riding up and down in a roller coaster.

Kind regards
Alexius

NOTE: The idea of the perfect moment or to give back symbols of life to that which is life is only working within the world of duality, so like any other ideas they also must be given up at some point. To give up must also go, as it is only in a world of duality though, that there is something to give up. In other words, this article and any other of my mine are written within the illusion of duality. Otherwise there would be nothing to write!

Only in the world of duality does something end, so speaking about the end of duality is a contradiction. In lack of better words though: At the end of duality there is no help to get, as all help is based on duality. However one way to help yourself, when duality seems to fall apart, may be to remember to forget, what and where, you think you are.
