Perception is everything when it comes to feeling happy [draft]

Getting something specific does not result in happiness if it is perceived to make you more special, because more wants more. But if getting it or not is perceived the same way, namely it is what it is, happiness is what you get. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

For the special self, happiness comes from getting the best deal. For the basic self, however, it comes from having a perception in sync with the script of the brain.

The special self is bound to be angry because even though it perceives itself to be in charge, it hardly ever gets what it sets out to obtain. And if it does, it does not feel good enough. The basic self, on the other hand, never goes for anything in specific. Why should it? It is in sync with the script of the brain, so no matter what it gets, the result is happiness.

The basic self perceives everything that happens to be in the best interest of everybody because the script of the brain does include everybody. The special self, on the other hand, perceives everything as a means to exclude others from itself, so it appears to be more important than them. That is why it is out of sync with the whole and thus the brain as it is the one that creates all the experiences of it.

Just like the instructions that a self-driving car gets are based on what is in the best interest for the whole, so are all the experiences the basic as well special self seems to have. Officially the special self probably agrees with this, but behind the scenes, it has its own selfish agenda based on the perception that it is better than others. Thus it does not get the satisfaction of feeling connected with the whole, but the dissatisfaction of being on its own.

As the basic self does not do anything on its own, it does not do something wrong, nor right. The special self, on the other hand, wants to do everything the right way as it believes this is the way to feel fulfilled. When that does not work out, it likes to imagine, it has done something wrong because that reinforces the perception, that it is in charge of its happiness.

It is the reasons the special self makes up for others being wrong, that traps it into believing it is doing the right thing.

Since the special self always feel guilty for trying to get as much as possible for as little as possible on the expense of others (read more about that here), it feels off the hook when somebody else is judged for stealing and, therefore, can be its scapegoat.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

For the basic self, satisfaction is something that comes from having a perception in sync with the stream of thoughts as it comes from the brain. The special self, on the other hand, seeks comfort from the perception that it is independent of the brain and in charge of its own life. As that makes it feel alone, it spends much time on adjusting its perception but only in its own way and pace, so it remains feeling separated and abandoned.

When somebody triggers an old feeling of rejection in the special self, it first interprets this as an attack on its entity, next it justifies feeling rejected with the attacker. Since the focus, therefore, seems to be on the attacker, the feeling appears to be there as well and thus to have left the special self. Should the attacker expose this projection, the special self points out something from the past that makes the attacker feel guilty. In this way, the special self succeeds in feeling good by making somebody else look bad.

Being the basic self does not mean that you love yourself and everybody else. There is also hatred because everything in a world of duality comes in pairs. When a feeling, however, is perceived as it is what it is, you feel happy regardless of the emotion. And then again, you cannot be happy without being sad. Those starting on a new diet often try to make it taste familiar, instead of exploring the unknown. The same usually applies to those perceiving themselves to be on a new spiritual path. They are afraid of the unknown, so they twist it into something known.

But since spirituality is that which is one and it takes more than one to define something, nothing that can be known is spiritual. In other words, you are fooling yourself if you believe to know anything at all about spirituality because only that which is not spiritual can be known.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The experience of being a self inside a body in a world defined by time and space is fabricated by the brain (read more about that here) with the purpose of making the self feel entertained when it is perceived as it is what it is and not as it ought to be.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The special self wants to find something that gets rid of all negative experiences, so it only has positive ones. But since everything in a world of duality comes in pair, you cannot have positivity without negativity. Actually, you only know that your experience is positive when you contrast it with a negative one.

Though the basic self may have no intellectual knowledge about the workings of duality, it knows the nature of it from experience because its happiness is highlighted by sadness. And every negative experience by positivity and vice versa. Thus it would never exclude negativity. Read more about that here.

Since the special self always feels something is missing in the present moment it looks forward to finding it afterwards.

The basic self does not get afterwards, neither before. Not because it lives in the now. It does not get that either. All it gets is the flow of thoughts that come from the brain, which results in happiness now, before and afterwards, so it never feels anything is missing.

Being at one requires more than one, as do any other kind of being and since there is no more than that which is one, whatever you believe to be is an illusion. In other words, whether you are the basic or the special self, you are just as illusionary as a character in a videogame. So while you seem to be in the game of the brain, while why not stick to being its default character, namely to the basic self, and thus not have to worry about political correctness because the brain rewards you with happiness. Being in sync with the stream of thoughts as it comes from the brain, the exchange of happiness and sadness is like going up and down a rollercoaster. Hence feeling sad is as entertaining as feeling happy.

Those believing in avoiding negativity often like to use crystal stones for healing, not knowing that most, Amethyst, for example, does this by emitting negative ions that produce biochemical reactions which create positive vibes/mood and relieve stress.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The special self always looks for something that can fix what it perceives to be wrong. It does not, however, want the solution that would fix them all at once, namely to not perceive the brain as an enemy but a friend (read more about that here), whose only interest is to produce a variety of experiences that will entertain it.

Ultimately speaking, the solution, of course, is to undo the belief that you are someone who experiences something. As this is the end of being anything at all, the special self avoids that by meditating or something else, which seems to imply that doing so will transform it into a higher being who is a part of something greater.

The sole purpose of the thoughts streaming from the brain to the basic self is to entertain it. And as the stream is full of natural pauses, the basic self enjoys what it in a laid-back way. The special self, on the other hand, feels restricted by the stream of thoughts because when it perceives the stream in a speculative way, the thoughts of it seem to increase and, therefore, to indicate there is something hidden.

For the special self a relationship is not about sharing but to expand the image of itself in an imperialistic way by invading somebody else.

This conclusion, however, is out of sync with the stream of thoughts because it cannot expand – only in your perception of it – and there is not something hidden except that behind the stream of thoughts there is nothing. But to make it appear as there is something hidden, the special self engages itself in dialogues it imagines having with others about it. (read more about that here).

None of these inner conversations, that often starts off with what if, solves the sense of something is missing, nor does actual discussions with somebody because nothing lives up to the special selfs expectation of reality. It is as unrealistic as the belief that it is free to arrange our own life in our own way and pace because what it believes to be is a fantasy that the brain has conceived from nothing.

To make long short, no matter what we believe to be, it is an illusion, because reality is that which is one and it takes more than one to be something.

If you need to meditate to relax, it is because you try to edit the stream of thoughts coming from the brain and exclude those that do not fit into your established perception of yourself. Not trying to edit the ever-changing flow of thoughts but perceiving it as it is what it is, your personality is not fixed but relative. Thus hating what you hate feels just as good as loving what you love.

Thinking that your purpose is to learn who you are, you deceive yourself, because learning requires more than one and so does having a purpose and there is no more than that which is one since it is formless and therefore endless.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The basic self has no need to relax, find or transform itself through meditation, yoga, fitness or whatnot. As its perception is in sync with the stream of thoughts like it comes from the brain, the basic is rewarded with shots of happiness by the brain. An as this happiness regularly makes it forget to remember to be somebody, there is nobody to transform. The special self, on the other hand, would never forget to remember to be somebody because it is on a mission to become a more unique being who is part of something greater. But since this never turns out as expected, it settles for following a guru or something else that seems to improve its social status.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Having grievances, you are not necessarily out of sync with the script of the brain. But if you justify your perception of being unfairly treated with selected fragments of the script, you do not perceive the grievance as it is what it is, but as something that emphasises you are special. Hence you do not get the satisfaction which comes from being in sync with the script. The same applies to justify any other feeling.

In other words, if you feel love and justify it with your spouse, love seems to be shaped, so instead of feeling free in the ever-changing flow script of the brain, you feel imprisoned by your perception.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

To be rewarded with the happiness that you are entitles to when having a perception in sync with the script of the brain is not a matter of agreeing with it but relating to that only. You can, therefore, perceive the script of the brain to be outright insane and the brain will still reward you with happiness because all it wants is to be with you.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

When you binge-watch your favourite TV show, you end up with your brain blown out, so there are no perceptions left but those in sync with the script of the show – just like when the basic self happily participate in each episode of the adventure produced by the brain.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

If the script of the brain is set up for you to repeatedly drop something on the floor, you may perceive yourself to be clumsy or not grounded.

That perception, however, is not in alignment with the scrip of the brain but with the concepts of society and/or New Age philosophy. Consequently, they do not bring about happiness but sadness for not being good enough. If your behaviour instead is perceived as it is what it is, the script is accepted as it is. Thus are you, and that feels good.

There only seems to be a self because this is what the brain has planned, that the consciousness built into it will conclude based on the experiences the brain renders of a world, which seems to be outside the self and to have an effect on its body since it responds to the world as if it is experienced by a self inside of it. Speaking of being grounded, the basic self always experiences the thrill of being entrenched on the Earth while travelling around the sun at 67.000 miles an hour (read more about that here). This, however, is just an intellectual idea for the special, because the speed cannot be felt when you perceive yourself and the Earth to be static and the sun to go around it (read more about that here).

Do not expect the basic self to have a merry-go-round life in the sense that all events are pleasant. If they were, you could not see that happiness does not come from what happens but having a perception that is in sync with it.

The special self is always worried about the future, whereas the basic self lives in joyful ignorance of it, also about its own death.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

It is much cheaper to be the basic self than the revised and more special version of it because the basic self does not have to buy something extraordinary to feel special.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

No matter what a self is perceived to be, it is a construction of thoughts compiled by the brain in such a way that the nothingness of the self seems to be something when it reacts to another construction of nothing, namely the world that seems to be outside of it, which therefore is confirmed to be something by the self. It is like when you experience to have an orgasm in a dream and conclude it must have been caused by something in the dream, although there is nothing in it.

This is not to say that the experience of nothing as something should be escaped. On the contrary, that would confirm it to be something. But if perceived as it is what it is. it has not been defined as something, neither nothing for that matter. So it can just be enjoyed as it is.

All worlds, whether they appear to be spiritual, material or immaterial, are fabricated by the brain (read more about that here), that has the same purpose as most movie directors, namely to entertain. And just like you are entertained by a movie when you are in sync with its script, you are entertained by the script of the brain when perceiving it as it is and not as it could be.
