Those who consider themselves to be special have much need to meet with others. Not because they want to be together, although they may speak as if they do, but because they want to use them as somebody who can confirm their specialness. But as closeness seems frightening, they have set up rules for how they can mimic togetherness and still keep a distance, for example by having dinner set up in such a way that everybody feels wrong if not minding the table manners.

The special self only sees others as somebody who should ensure its satisfaction.

There are even books about what to say in this or other situations so you can trick others into believing you care about them while you manipulate them to give what you want, which always is the same when you think you are special, namely to be acknowledged for that.

The basic self, on the other hand, has no need to meet or follow table manners to be confirmed as if it is someone, which is part of a special group. It is in the flow of thoughts coming from the brain, and as nobody is excluded from that, it has no need to be included.

Dialogue is uncommon to the special self, who considers communication to be, that one or more selves are having a monologue since that upholds the feeling of separation and therefore of being individual, whereas having a dialogue might undo that.

The special self is always trying to escape something, but it does not know what. Neither will it ever know, because there is nothing to escape. It is all an illusion. But it seems to become real when trying to fix or escape it. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

The special self wishes to have extraordinary experiences like glimpses of enlightenment, but it seldom experiences anything but the ordinary, as to keep up its appearance of independence, it must always be in control to prevent anything unknown to pass its armour of selected memories.

If something uncontrollable like glimpses of enlightenment should enter into the controlled world of the special self, it will wait for it to be over, and suppress the memories of it so it can return to its old life.

Should it accidentally happen, that a glimpse of enlightenment cracks open the armour, it will compare the unknown experience to its memories, so the unknown becomes well-known and therefore seems to be part of its old life.

Read about how to have glimpses of enlightenment in Perceiving the world as symbols of the four aspects of enlightenment – or how to have glimpses of enlightenment.

Everything in a movie is meant to invoke memories of specific emotions so that it feels as if you are taking part in it. If nothing reminds you of something, nothing is going to make you cry or laugh, wherefore the plot and your understanding of it is exposed as make-believe.

That is why the brain helps you to find something in your memory bank, that points to the way the characters should be perceived. If you do not start doubting the subsequent judgments of the characters but follow it to the letter, you feel good, whereas if you start to use concepts of justice, love, compassion and whatnot, you feel confused. The purpose of the brains rendering of a world where there seems to be more than one is for you to be entertained through the experience of being someone there. That is all. There is not something to learn, because every bit of it is a fantasy – including what you consider as more real.

It is also an illusion, that a brain renders something out of nothing which someone experiences to be real because the experience of something requires more than one and there is no more than that which is one. For the same reason, there is neither somebody making this fantasy or being conscious about it.

Following the stream of thoughts exactly as it comes from the brain is like having the brain is blown out and being on autopilot. It is comparable to feeling totally absorbed by a TV show after having binge-watched it.

Watching a TV show, the brain is in its right element, which is to continually pass remarks and predict what comes next as if the show is not fictional but real. If you do not doubt it and try to make it better or in any way interfere with the thoughts coming from the brain but relax in the flow of them, you are also in your right element, namely to be at service for the brain. But since it is the sum of your most significant memories and that is what you believe to be – read more about that here – you are not just a servant but a master as well.

If a world where there seems to be more than one is perceived to be a show, the brain continually comments on so there seems to be an awareness of a self who is experiencing the world it is commenting, both you as the self having this experience and as the brain producing a self having it are in your right element.

The purpose of the brains rendering of a world where there seems to be more than one is for you to be entertained by having the experience of being someone there. There is not something to learn, because everyt bit of it is a fantasy – including a brain rendering something that someone experiences as well as anybody making up this fantasy.

Being in your right element the illusionary wall in between a world where there seems to be more than one and that which is one seems very thin. So thin, in fact, that you easily fall into a state of not-knowing, where the apparent difference between the flow of thoughts coming from the brain and the one being entertained by them it is not perceived to make a difference. Hence there is nobody to experience something, which is pure bliss. Read more about that here.

Not being in your right element you always search for something better – capitalism, socialism or spiritualism, for example – wherefore you constantly add new layers to the basic self that the brain has made from out of nothing as if it is layered on top of it. That is why the special self always talks about peeling off layers to return to that which it is.

But the special self, as well as the basic one, is nothing, and they only seem to be something because of a particular construction of thoughts – or rather the belief that thoughts represent something solid. In other words, it is not layers that need to be peeled off, but the belief that there is something underneath them.

Whenever you feel something completely, there is nothing to contrast it and thus not something to define it, neither you. That is why you always try to escape feeling something by mentally understanding or justifying it. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

In a state of not-knowing, everything sounds different because nobody tries to categorise anything by going down memory lane and find something similar so it can be compared to so the past and thereby shaped by it. Thus every sound, sight, feeling or taste is an entirely new experience.

This is not something you are aware of though, and nobody will ever know if it is so, because you are in a state of not-knowing. Yet it seems likely since this state is over when you start to search your memory bank for something that can help you categorise what you hear, see, feel or taste.

The duality hacks do not detach you from your feelings in the sense that they will be experienced as distant. On the contrary. When you return from a state of not-knowing to the consciousness of being someone definitive, they will seem so much closer. But as you now do not consider them to be something but nothing, you enjoy this intensity of nothing, regardless it appears in the shape of sadness or happiness. In other words, you are indifferent to the supposed difference between the contrasts in a world of duality.

Should you forget this and focus on the apparent tangibility of feelings, their unedited energy of restlessness can be used to ignite a take off to the empty breath, where there is nobody to judge sadness as different from happiness.

You can learn how to ignite a take-off to the empty breath in hack #4.4 Uncontrolled speed leads to a state of not-knowing.

Feeling happy sad. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Since the basic self is not exclusive but inclusive, feeling sad includes the feeling of happiness and vice verse. Feeling unhappy, therefore, is not a clear-cut state of sadness. If you, for example, feel sad because your cat is dead, you are also in touch with the happiness you experienced in its presence, since that is the reason you feel sad.

This does not apply to the special self though. It is not inclusive but exclusive, so it is not able to feel sadness and happiness simultaneously. Nor is it able to feel any of those emotions, because it suppresses sadness to feel happy, and without sadness, happiness cannot be defined. Thus it replaces the sensation of feeling something with a mental understanding of what it thinks has caused it.

Should the intensity of a feeling manage to surpass the speculations about it, the special self is devastated. Yet that is nothing compared to the annihilation it faces by experiencing happiness and sadness simultaneously, because when two opposing feelings meet they cancel out each other – read more about that here – so that there is not something to define it as someone, which is the death of the special self.

The basic self does not have this problem because it does not exclude life from death – so should it fear death, it will meet life as well, and since opposing elements cancel out each other when not kept apart, there is nothing left but emptiness, which is pure bliss

You are not reading this, and it has been not written by Alexius. It is not possible, because there is no more than that which is one. Yet it seems possible to believe, that there is more than that which is one. And since you appear to be reading and Alexius to be writing this, you and he share this belief. One could say you are one in that, and your belief, therefore, is a positive confirmation of oneness.

In other words, even though appearances may seem to hide that which have no appearance, namely the formlessness of oneness, nothing can undo it, because there is no more than that.
