BM1 The fake link between immateriality and materiality [DRAFT]

When the sense of the physical domain is not mixed with feelings from the psychological sphere, the body seems lighter, and so does feeling angry or whatnot. Furthermore, emotions are fleeting. It is like watching a movie in which the frightening scenes are just as entertaining as the merry ones. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Thanks for passing by. Alexius is still in the process of exploring to express the matter of this article. Hence, you may be better off reading another article. But you are, of course, welcome to take your chances.

In most cases, you do not have to read Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teachings in a particular order. But in the case of hack #4.3 To be a basic self is to be good enough, it is advisable to first have read hack #4.2 The basic self versus the special one. It spells out the basic and the special self, the script of the brain, and how to perceive it so you feel happy.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

The perceived link between a problem in the psyche and the body, or vice versa, is imaginary because immateriality and materiality do not blend. Thus there is no psychosomatic disorder to heal but a psychological and physical problem that respectively is dealt with in an immaterial and material way.

This is a process over time. But it can also be solved right away by perceiving the psychosomatic disorder as it is what it is.* In the below bits and pieces both approaches are explored. As always, in the case of a world where there seems to be more than one, they could have been covered more thoroughly.

The purpose of Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teachings, however, is not to present a complete explanation of how and why you appear to be someone in a world where there seems to be more than one because you are not there or anywhere else as it takes more than one to be somewhere and there is no more than that which is one. In other words, what you believe to be is non-existing.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Within the context of appearing to be someone in a world where there seems to be more than one, you do not have a definitive self but one that is relative to the fleeting experiences produced by the brain. And since the brain makes sure that any experience is perceived as it is what it is,* all of them makes you happy.

That is if you do not override this basic perception and make a special one in which you seem to be someone definitive in charge of your life. In that case, you get sad and confused, because this perception is out of sync with the script of the brain. Although it allows you to choose to go right or left, for example, the subsequent experience of this decision is generated by the brain. Just like in a computer game, where every outcome of your choice is prefixed.

But unlike such a game, there is not something better to achieve because the brain makes sure that what and where you appear to be is perceived as it is what it is.*

that cannot be changed

someone who is defined by the present experience produced by the brain. In other words, the brain has not created you as someone definitive who has the fate of life in its own hands, but as someone relative to the fleeting experiences it generates. Fortunately, perceiving yourself to be in charge of your destiny is a mistake which is easily corrected. You just perceive it as it is what it is.*

Although this results in constant happiness, you may again choose the excitement of being or having something special. So you replace the perception with I know what it is,* which is the fundamental claim of the special self. But since this is not so, you are reminded that it does not result in happiness but confusion. Thus you probably correct the mistake by perceiving it as it is what it is.*

When you perceive every experience that it is what it is,* you never enter the stress of being someone definitive. You remain without a centre and focus on being anything specific. Thus you automatically play the role set up by the brain for the present experience. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Most play a special role for their children, another one for their pets, and a new one for their boss, for example. Their problem, though, is that they try to find something definitive in these different roles to consider their real self. But there is no other self than the basic one the brain has created. It is without a centre and is ever-changing with the fleeting experiences it receives from the brain. So if you try to find a definitive self that is centred and focussed in all your roles, you are on an endless quest.

The basic self cannot be altered. Only the perception of it can be changed. In order to do that, so you seem to be someone definitive, you must exclude everything from your perception that does not fit into the special self you want to become. A common way to exclude a psychological feeling from the awareness is to disguise it in a physical feeling. But since immaterial and material issues are incompatible, you deceive yourself when you believe in having gotten rid of a psychological problem by hiding it in a bodily feeling.

It is a bit like when have visualised to win the lottery and concludes it has happened, wherefore you start living like you are free from economic restraints. The problems that this entails needs to be solved at the root, namely that you believe to be someone definitive who is in charge of your life. Thus the resolution is not mindfulness or something else that seems to ease the stress coming from your suppressed problem. You need to be freed from the perception of being someone definitive, so you can be a floating self with no centre and ever-changing with the fleeting experiences produced by the brain.

Being in this flexibility of attitude relativism, you feel entertained by any experience generated by the brain, regardless it seems to bring you down or up. Consequently, there is no specific feeling you need to avoid or enhance to feel happy and, therefore, no psychological feeling decrease or increase by combining it with a physical feeling.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Nobody is perfect, so even though you generally speaking are the basic self, there may be times when it seems attractive to be more unique. The special self appears to have so many exciting feelings, that makes you feel exceptional. Emotions, however, come in pairs, so you cannot feel that without also feeling unexceptional.

This would not be a problem if sticking to the perception of the basic self. It perceives everything as it is what it is.* Hence the apparently different ways of feeling yourself make no difference. But as the special self perceives everything as I know what it is,* it is imperative to hide feelings of weakness and thus appearing to know it is perfect.

What a relief not trying to achieve a mood, relation or whatnot that never will be perfect enough to escape the feeling of hell.

Psychological feelings have often been hidden in the way a wounded part of the body is experienced. Alexius, for example, has a basic design fault in the spine and writing this hack, he realised lots of psychological stuff had been unloaded there. Ideally speaking, he should have separated the psychological feelings from the physical ones, but he was not able to to that. It felt like he would end in hell.

Fortunately, he was able to include the feeling of hell by perceiving it as it is what it is.* Not just like that, though, but after days of trying to avoid it by looking for a setup that fitted into his conditioned image of perfection. What a relief when you do not need to hide your feeling of imperfection.

This does not mean, hell has gone, but that you are not afraid of going there anymore because it is what it is.* Thus going down feels as entertaining as going up. In other words, one of the most frightening contrasts of duality, namely that of the darkness and light, has been cancelled out. Read more about the cancellation of contrasts here.

As already said, nobody is perfect, so you may go back and forth from the perception of the basic self to one of the special self several times a day. No problem. It is what it is.*

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

If you often feel irritated or confused, you are not in sync with the script of the brain because all of its feelings are fleeting and the lightness of them entails happiness. In other words, if you are irritated, you have chosen to be independent of the brain, and perceiving to be on your own does not feel good.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

You make a special version of the basic self by excluding everything from your perception of it, which is judged to be embarrassing. The excluded feelings, for example hate and anger, are hidden from your awareness by combining them with the physical feeling of weak or deformed parts of the body, so the psychological feelings seem to be physical and thus wholly removed. When a suppressed psychological feeling is triggered, you are, therefore, not aware of it but instead of a feeling of pain in the stomach, for example, which is perceived to be physical.

No matter what medicine you take or food you stop to eat for this, an abstract feeling of pain remains, namely the psychological issue that has been hidden in the physical feeling of the stomach. But the pain goes away when facing the darkness in the psyche on its own term, which is on an abstract level – or even better when you confront how come you want to be special and not the basic self the brain has created to be entertained by the experiences it produces, regardless they seem dark or light.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Having faced darkness or not believing to be in charge of your life and thus not perceiving that I know what it is,* but it is what it is,* you are free from the abstract pain you believe are in the body, and as it free from you inflicting this pain upon it, it can do what it is made to do, namely to heal the problems that are physical.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Sometimes the psychological and physical feeling, combined in a combo that seems to decrease or increase one of them, may reveal themselves individually. Alexius, for example, realised, that he as a child had combined sorrow and rage with the physical feeling arising from a continuous infection in his throat. Hence he could deal with the psychological and physical problem respectively in an immaterial and material way when he pain in the throat did not make him feel angry, and anger was not perceived to be a feeling of something physical in the throat.

If you are not aware of which psychological feeling you have buried in a physical one, you simply perceive what is felt to be a physical problem as it is what it is.* This perception renders the problem non-definable. Thus whatever the combo consists of is undone wherefore there is nothing to be upset about. This does not mean that there are cases where you should consult a healthcare professional. The body will let you know.

Many times, though, it may seem impossible to break up a combo to deal with its parts in each their own way. No worries. A psychological feeling that you in your childhood suppressed from your awareness by hiding it in a physical feeling most often does not seem dangerous as a grownup. So what you need to face is not the past, but the fear of it. Facing that, there is nothing left but a physical problem which does not make you cry or scream.
