From non-duality to duality and back

It is not possible to drink the water from the bottle in this pic, because the bottle is a simulation – but it is possible to imagine to drink the water. The imagination will never quench your thirst though.

It is not possible to drink the water from the bottle in this image, because the bottle is a simulation – but it is possible to imagine drinking it. This imagination though will never quench your thirst. That which is one

… is no different from the formlessness of that which is you. But as formlessness has no size it is nothing. Yet it is also everything because formlessness is endless. In other words, there is no more than the formlessness of eternal life, which also is called non-duality.

Schräge Parallelen

Nothing in the world is what is seems to be. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

It takes more than one to see anything, so if you see this image, you have tricked yourself into thinking, you are not one. You may also have tricked yourself into seeing convergent red lines, when, actually, all lines are parallel, and it is the blue boxes that are offset.

What if that which is one …

… could be divided into more than one. It is not possible, because it is formless, and the speed of it is infinitely fast, so there is no time and space making it possible to differentiate anything. Yet it seems possible to imagine slowing down the speed of it until it is so slow that it seems possible to make out separated appearances in the distance.

Think of the movie Lucy, where Luc Besson via Scarlett Johansson demonstrates, that if you speed up time infinitely, any object in motion disappears – or in the context of this article becomes one. The world is a reverse example of that. A slowed down movie of oneness you could say.

One of these separated appearances in the distance is imagined to be you. Both you and everything else though is as flat as an image in this article, because formlessness has no dimensions. But when what you is imagined to be observes everything else from different angles and distances, it appears as if it gets smaller and bigger. In other words, it seems to exist in time and space, and so you conclude the same applies to you.

Movements that do not exist. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

The book ´Eye Benders: The Science of Seeing and Believing´ written by Clive Gifford explains, the brain sees movements that do not actually exist, and it also fabricate images to fill what it perceives to be gaps in the world. You can read more about this in the article The closer you look, the less you believe what you see is real.

To make long short, a world where there seems to be more than one (also called a world of duality) is built from an imagined slowed down version of that which is one ( also called non-duality), so that the experience of this virtual world defined by time and space, that is layered on top of the formlessness of that which is one seems to cover it, seems to hide that there is no more than that which is one.

It is not done with any other purpose than the excitement of being and having more than that which is one. A bit like the excitement you get when AR (augmented reality) modifies the physical world and builds a layer on top of it, so a simulation of the physical world is mixed with the actual physical world.

This article is partly inspired by an article in Wired called Our Forward March Across the Reality-Virtuality Continuum, where you can read more about AR and VR. In the fashion of AR you might say, that this article is build on top of the article from Wired.

You probably experience, that you see two differently sized orange circles in this pic, because that is what the part of the brain, that measures perspective and scale, will tell you. Due to the blue circles it appear as they are not the same size. But you are wrong. Each orange circle is the same size. You are also wrong, if you think persons are different, and that they are in a world of duality. It is an illusion. Everything is sizeless.

Due to the blue circles, it appears as the orange circles are not the same size. But you are wrong. Each orange circle has the same size. At the time of writing this article, the most well-known example of AR (augmented reality) was probably Google glasses, where a digital simulation of the physical world is mixed with the actual physical world via eternally being connected to the internet. You can read about another kind of AR glasses, that changes how you appear to others, in my recent article What is unreal, is right in front of you.

Since then Pokémon Go, has maybe become the most well-known example of AR. It is, however, not only when playing Pokémon Go that many people are living in a kind of augmented reality. They look at their smartphone, where a layer of digital info is flowing on top of the physical world, while they hear music in one ear and listen to friends from the physical world with the other ear.

This image – like any other digital image – consists solely of pixels added in different combinations to make them appear as something, they are not. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Bringing the imagination of god or some kind of a superworld into the reality of the physical world has been a longtime human fantasy. Imaginative fiction, transcendental meditation, aura-transformation and psychoactive drugs can be seen as early efforts to trick the mind into thinking, it is possible to blend a non-physical fantasy world with the physical world, where we appear to be. Soon VR (virtual reality) like it is envisioned by Oculus Rift – will be able to actually implement this.

That which is one is replaced by the belief in more

The first step away from the formlessness of that which is one to a world where there seems to be more than one can be compared to AR (augmented reality), which is a mix of real and unreal. The second step can be compared to VR (virtual reality), where reality totally is replaced by an illusion. Yet the illusion, that seems to replace reality, can only be experienced due to it.

In a virtual world everything is possible and that seems very exciting, even though it is all an illusion. The graphic is grabbed from the web.

»This (virtual reality) is a state where you are totally transported into another world and immersed in the digital interactions of the virtual environment you’ve entered … the feeling that you are truly visiting another space that is wholly distinct from what you can see and hear without the platform … a platform like Oculus Rift is an alternative to reality, supplying entirely new, virtual experiences: true VR.« From Our Forward March Across the Reality-Virtuality Continuum in Wired.

Why choose to appear, as if you are someone definitive in a world where there seems to be more than one when that which is you is the formlessness of that which is one. Because it appears as if the endless possibilities of such a world is much more exciting than that which is one, where there is nothing to experience there, as that requires more than one.

The world of duality can only be experienced by contrasts – like black and white, space and empty space. The experienced contrast of inanimate and animate, you judge as proof for you to be alive.

In a world where there seems to be more than one there is so much to experience. Happiness for example. But it comes with a price, because such a world – contrary to that which is one – is built of contrasts so you cannot have happiness without sadness. This applies to every experience.

Nothing can be experienced without its contrast. You would not be able to know when it is dark, if not for knowing light.

Yet you may think, that it is possible to surpass this and live in just one state of mind, bliss for example, as there is vague memories of oneness. Yet it has been covered by the desire for more, which only can be experienced if the belief in separation is upheld, and that requires contrasts. You would not be able to know when it is dark, if not for knowing its contrast light.

All contrasts in the world are like two sides of a coin. This duality though can never replace the peace of that which is one, as there is no more than one. Consequently what is not one is not real – and only that which is real is peaceful.

So as long as you believe you are someone definitive in a world where there seems to be more than one, the formlessness of that which is one is hidden by your belief in separation.

In a world where there seems to be more than one, it is always about being and having more the fastest and cheapest way. The animation is grabbed from Ello.

A world where there seems to be more than one does in no way function like the formlessness of that which is one, as it does not function at all, because it takes more than one to function.

A person always find ways to deny or change appearances in the world that is judged to be wrong, so that it appears to better. But no matter how happy being better may seem to make you, you cannot escape its contrast, sadness, because happiness cannot be experienced without it. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

But no matter how happy being better may seem to make you, its contrast, sadness, cannot be escaped, because happiness cannot be known without it. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

The world, where you believe to be was constructed by imagining, it is possible to be separate from that which is one and make something better on top of it. This is the not only how it started, but it is also how it goes on. None of the excitement, that a world where there seems to be more than one, appears to offer feels good enough.

There is always an urge to separate from what excites you and replace it with something better, which can hide the memories of the old one. The only thing, that seems constant in a world where there seems to be more than one is the fear of not being and having enough.

In a world where there seems to be more than one, it is always about getting more, the bigger the better, so the eyes always focus on contrasts, preferable the biggest ones, that in the case of reading this article is the contrast between black and white. This should not be understood though as you actually see this. Eyes do not see, they translate – or rather the brain translate the frequencies hitting the eyes.

In other words, the the world is a construction of thoughts – and when you believe thoughts are made by you, you as a person in the world is perceived to be real.

Enlightenment of that which is one undoes the belief in more

One who is to be compared to the enlightenment of that which is one knows, that there is no more than the formlessness of that which is one, and that a world where there seems to be more than one, therefore, is not real. Everybody else – no matter how spiritual they appear to be – are solely having speculations about the existence of themselves in a world where there seems to be more than one.

The purpose of these speculations is not to bid welcome the enlightenment of that which is one, because that erases the belief in existence, as it takes more than one to exist and there is no more than that which is one. Instead, it is the enhancement of the existence of themselves as something special in such a world.

Believing that a world where there seems to be more than one – including so-called spiritual parts – is real is to be compared to sitting in a cinema, where you project yourself onto the world, that seems to be on the screen, so that what is on the screen appears to have an effect on you, and therefore is experienced as to be real.

Enlightenment of that which is one can be compared to the movie roll suddenly breaks, so that there is nothing but bright white light on the screen. The world is no more, and it never was. It is an illusion fabricated by your interpretations of fragmented light.

This is the enlightenment, Alexius is to be compared to. It is not something that you see, because it is the enlightenment of that which is one, and it takes at least two for something to be seen.

When the movie roll is fixed and Alexius again appear to be in the world on the screen, the enlightenment of that which is one has not turned him into a wiser man or changed anything in the world. But he knows, that a world in a movie is not real and it can only be experienced, because of that which is real, as there is no more than that which is one.

The enlightenment of that which is one you can read about in the .

The animation is grabbed from the web.

If everything that you see is perceived to be symbols of that which cannot be seen, namely the formlessness of that which is one, though happiness and sadness apparently are not the same feeling, the difference does not make a difference, because they are both symbols of the same. The animation is grabbed from Ello.

To see symbols of that which is one in that which is not one

Even though you may have been told, that a world where there seems to be more than one is an illusion, your conditioned belief in such a world compulsively produces experiences of more than that which is one.

You can speed up the process of undoing this belief by not perceiving these experiences as real but symbols of that which is, namely the formlessness of that which is one – also called eternal now one perpetual present, oneness, non-duality, or the formlessness of spirit or life. This is what this hack, namely hack #2.1 Everything experienced is a symbol of life,  is all about.

Pretending to be what is not one confirms that which is one

Pretending to be someone definitive in a world where there seems to be more than one, is another way to speed up the process of not believing to be there, as what you pretend to be, you are not – so the more you pretend to be there instead of believing to be there the more the belief, that it is possible to be and have more than that which is one, cannot hide that there is no more than that. See hack #1.3 Pretending to be someone definitive is liberation.

That which is one cannot be known in a world where there seems to be more than one – neither anywhere else, as it takes more than one to know something. So rather than pointing to that which is one, Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teachings point out that there is no more than that which is one.

That which is one is one perpetual present

When you return to the formlessness of that which is one from a world where there seems to be more than one, everything is all the same, as if you have been there all the time, which you also have, because there is no more that which is one. Therefore the phrase ´when you return to non-duality´ should only be taken as a metaphor. In reality, you can never return, as you never left the formlessness of that which is one – only in an echo of a fantasy.

NOTES:

In a world of duality, there is no compassion without brutality

yWith eyes closed, you may still see images of the world because the brain does not need information from your sensory system to produce them. This is just something it claims to distract you from realising, that it has created all your experiences of something from out of nothing (read more about that here). That includes the experiences perceived to be spiritual and those implying you are someone definitive. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

Since it requires more than one to have a shape, oneness is formless and therefore endless. And since it also calls for more than one to experience something and there is no more than that which is one, the awareness of something is an illusion. This hallucination, however, seems to become real when oneness is imagined being split into two, an observer and the observed, as they appear to confirm the existence of each other. Hence the observer concludes that it must go on separating to be alive.

But doing so destroys the pairs of opposites that oneness originally was split into, so each side could define the other, and their interaction would produce a full experience of duality. Hate, for example, was paired with love to define the experience of that. When the link is broken, however, there is no hate to define love, wherefore it feels incomplete.

That is why the observer presses on to find real love until it realises, that hate and love are two sides of the same coin, so you cannot have one without the other. Nor can you have peace without a fight, relief without an ache, action without inaction, perfection without imperfection, and so on. As love, therefore, cannot be felt without hate, you deceive yourself if you claim to only feel love. It is a mental concept you have plugged into by thinking about hugging, for example, and holding on to the thoughts that confirm a theoretical idea of pure love. Read more about that in hack #4.3 To be a basic self is to be good enough.

Fortunately, you do not need to understand the nature of duality, if you want to undo the belief that separation is possible. On the contrary, since it requires more than one to understand something, it is not knowing what and where you are, that undoes this belief.

All the duality hacks take you back one second in linear time to the nothingness from where the brain has fabricated your present experience. In this case, that you are someone definitive who now reads, it took the brain one second to invent this experience from out of nothing (read more about that here). Being empty, though, you are in the bliss of non-being. Thus the experience is not perceived to be something.

You cannot bid welcome the enlihtenment of that which is one when you want to exist because it takes more than one to be alive. This does not mean you need to die. That also calls for more than one.

The universe you believe to experience is nothing but fragmented memories of a world, that could have been, but never was because there is no more than that which is one. Read more about that there. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

If you remain in this state of not-knowing for more than 20 minutes, 45 at most, the enlightenment of that which is one set in. Read more about that in hack #5-7.1 From the inner senses through a black hole into that which is one. And read more about a state of not-knowing in hack #5.3 ´The empty breath´ and the bliss of not believing to be someone.

The enlightenment of that which is one does not alter or transform anything, as that requires more than one. Instead, it wipes out everything that calls for more than one. Hence there is nobody to be aware of a fantasy about somebody in a world where there seems to be more than one, and, therefore, not somebody who appears to hide, there is nothing but the formlessness of oneness.

Leaving a state of not-knowing before the enlightenment of that which is one set in, you return to the fantasy of being someone in a world where there seems to be more than one with the slate wiped clean. Read more about that in hack #4.2 The basic self versus the special one.

Thus you start from the ground up, moving very slowly as if you practise qigong. Unlike that, however, your stretching has no other purpose than to fine-tune the body as a tool for the experience of duality. This dedication to duality is also why you do not attempt to pull apart the pairs making up the experience of it but comply with their synergy to get the full experience of duality. The collaboration of love and hate, for example, fix you up with the complete experience of a relationship.

If memories from your childhood is the basis for your perception of a movie you watch as a grown-up, you are out of sync with its plot. It, therefore, seems to make you frustrated rather than entertained. Fortunately, this is corrected right away if you perceive the plot, or your judgment of it, as it is what it is.

This perception makes the plot amusing no matter how it evolves because you are in sync with the itt as it is and not as what you think it is. Likewise, when the script of the brain is perceived as it is what it is. Read more about that in hack #4.2 The basic self versus the special one.

Like a movie, the experience of polarity unfolds as scripted by the director. Since that is not you, there is nothing you can change but your perception of it. When that is in sync with the script as it is, which it automatically is when the slate has been wiped clean, the director of the script, namely the brain, rewards you with shots of happiness for supporting it. Read more about that here.

Eventually, this makes you so relaxed that you have no more to ask for. Hence the belief in being and having more than that which is one has been undone while you had fun experiencing more than one.

The purpose of Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teaching is not to explain the truth but to show there is nothing to explain, as it requires more than one to do so and there is no more than that which is one since it is formless and therefore endless. Photo © Alexius Jorgensen.

All experiences, including those perceived to be spiritual, are bogus because it takes more than one to be conscious of something and there is no more than that which is one. The same, of course, applies to this or any other explanation in Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teachings. None of them are true.

Nor the explanation about imagining oneness being split in two. Since it is impossible, there is nothing to undo but the belief that separation is possible. That is why Alexius´ Enlightened Non-Teachings gladly confirm, they are nothing, and, therefore, do not have something to enhance the belief in separation, so it is phased out the more you read them.

In the below articles, you can read more about the illusion of being someone who experiences something:
